Here at the Metro we LOVE movies – and as the winter nights draw in, a trip to the cinema is a great night out. But we want to know are you Movie Moguls? We thought we’d share the Top 5 film and TV moments you never knew were filmed in Ireland with you:
1. Saving Private Ryan (1998)
The iconic opening twenty minutes of war film Saving Private Ryan were actually filmed in County Wexford on Ballinesker Beach.
2. Braveheart (1995)
Many of the battle scenes from this classic Scottish tale were filmed inIreland. Londonscenes were shot in Co. Meath at the Bective Abbey, and The Battle of Stirling Bridge was filmed in Co. Kildare.
3. Italian Job (1969)
Kilmainham Gaol in Dublin was the location for all of the prison scenes with Noel Coward.
4. The Tudors (2007-2010)
All four series of The Tudors was shot inIreland, in various locations in Wicklow andDublin.
5. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)
In a scene between Harry Potter and Professor Dumbledore, there’s a shot of Cliffs of Moher in County Clare followed by the two characters standing on Lemon Rock, in County Kerry.
